When Should Newborn Photos Be Taken?

Ideally, you should schedule your newborn photos in CT for the first 1-2 weeks of your baby's life. During this time, babies tend to be at their sleepiest as well. This will make it easier to wrap, swaddle, and pose them during their session. After this time frame, your newborn will begin to become more alert and awake during the day. There is one additional reason to schedule newborn photos in CT at the 2-3 week mark. Newborns grow so quickly within those first few months of life, so timing is everything when it comes to capturing them in that tender newborn stage. 

Do Hospitals Offer Newborn Photography?

Many hospitals do offer newborn photography, however, I would advise against it for a number of reasons. First, many parents like to be included during a newborn session. For moms especially, this can be hard to do when you are in a hospital gown with an IV in your arm. Next, beautiful frame-worth photos are hard to capture when there is a multitude of hospital equipment in the backdrop. Lastly, you may be attempting to figure out your newborn's schedule, all the while nurses are on rotation coming in and out of your room, the last thing you need during your hospital stay is another disruption that takes away from this special time with your baby.  It's best to wait until you are home, settled, and adapting to a new routine. From there, you will feel more ready to step in front of the camera with your sweet baby for their first portrait. 

Where Should We Take Newborn Photos in CT?

There are two distinct options when it comes to professional newborn photography. The first is to bring your newborn to a photography studio. The second is to schedule an at-home session for your newborn.  The experience that you choose will be dependent on your comfort level. Some families prefer the ease of having a photographer arrive at their doorstep so that they can move the session along at a pace that feels right for them, while also having easy access to the things they need. 

What Is The Process For Schedule Newborn Photography?

1. Inquire

Reach out to me during your third trimester. Tell me everything! When is your due date? Do you know your baby’s gender? Have you selected a name yet? Share as many details with me as you feel comfortable with. This will allow me to curate a personalized newborn photoshoot for your baby. 

2. Booking

You should only ever book a newborn photographer after you’ve looked through their work and are sure their style matches your own. From there, we can book the best date possible for your newborn session. Birthing plans don’t always go as expected, and I understand that. We can book your session at a time frame that suits your needs. 

3. Payment

Payment will be required in order to book your newborn photoshoot. Some photographers require a 50% deposit while others prefer that you pay in full. 

4. Prepare

With your session secured, you can expect expert advice from your newborn photographer. But, keep in mind each photographer has a different approach. Some will provide you with tips or a style guide, while others will be more hands-on in helping you select swaddles, attire, and theming for your newborn photoshoot. 

5. Keep in Touch

Things will be a blur once your baby has made their arrival. Be sure to keep in touch with your photographer to let them know that your baby is here. We’d also like to know how you are feeling and check in with you ahead of your photoshoot.
